The Best Ramen Shop in Suwon [멘야산다이메]

IMG_1246

멘야산다이메's New Suwon Location
2015.08.09 @ 수원 남문 [Suwon Nam-mun]

I have always raved about 멘야산다이메 [Menyasan-daime] in 홍대 [Hongdae]. It is by far my favorite restaurant in all of Korea. It's the best Japanese ramen I've had outside of Japan. One day, I was taking a walk in search of a ramen shop that was supposed to be down by 남문 [Nam-mun]. When I arrived, it was sadly shut down, but to my pleasant surprise, there was a big banner on the outside stating that there was going to be a 멘야산다이메 opening later that month. There wasn't an exact day, so my usual morning walks began to take me down that way to check on the status. It took a couple weeks, but it finally opened, and I couldn't be more pleased.

Suwon Test Shots

Suwon Test Shots
2015.04.07 @ Suwon [수원]

I took a walk around my neighborhood. Then, I went down to Hwaseong Fortress with my tripod to try for some night shots.

개고기 [Dog Meat]

개고기 [Dog Meat]
2014.09.06 @ 수원 [Suwon]

I know that this topic can be touchy for some, but our old coworker Abel took us out for 개고기 over the 추석 [Chuseok] holiday. There's a little restaurant behind the bell in Hwaseong Fortress. Tristan and CJ came with us. We had steamed dog with veggies and dog stew. The steamed stuff was a little fatty, but the stew was incredible.

Go out Exit 1 and hail a taxi. It shouldn't be more than 5,000 won. Tell the taxi driver "Janganmun-e kajuseyo." / "장안문에 가주세요." If the weather is nice, you could definitely make the walk. Once you're there, you'll see the big bell. It's right behind that.

수원 화성 - Suwon Hwaseong Fortress

IMG_9174

수원 화성 - Hwaseong Fortress
2014/04/19 @ 수원 [Suwon]

The main reason Alyssa & Ryan came down to Suwon was to explore the fortress. We began the day by eating delicious food at 화로구이 [Hwalo-gui] and strolling through 팔달문 시장 [Paldalmun Market]. We walked along the southern and eastern walls of 수원 화성 [Hwaseong Fortress] on this particular visit. We stopped along the way for pictures and even some kite flying. Unfortunately, we were a bit too late to take the dragon wagon tour of the fortress. Hopefully, I'll have the chance to take that ride when my parents are here in a couple weeks.
