Parents in Korea - Day 2
2014.05.11 @ 탑골공원, 광화문 & 청계천

On day two of my parents' trip, we followed a pretty common path that I take new teachers on as a general tour of central Seoul. We started by walking through 탑골공원 [Tapgol Park], then strolled down trough 인사동 [Insadong] were we sat and at some 찜닭 [jjimdak]. After 인사동, we walked out to 경복궁 [Gyeongbok-gung], Seoul's main palace. Then, we sat next to the statues for bit before taking a short stroll down 청계천 [Cheonggye-cheon]. Lastly, we went out to 명동 [Myeong-dong] to see Nanta, the cooking show, for Mother's Day.

Friends From Iowa

Angela & Luke's Visit
10/07~08/2012

I went out to Incheon Airport to meet up with Angela and Luke when they arrived in Seoul about a month ago. We really didn't have too much time together, but we were still able to see quite a bit. We went to 홍대 [Hongdae], 인사동 [Insadong], 경복궁 [Gyeongbokgung], 광화문 [Gwanghwamun], 청계천 [Cheongyecheon], & 명동 [Myeongdong]. I sadly didn't take enough photos, but here's what I've got.

Gyeongbokgung - 경복궁

Summer Time Sightseeing
08/18/2012 @ 경복궁 [Gyeongbokgung]

Saturday was great. 안나 [Anna] and I went out to 경복궁 [Gyeongbokgung] in the afternoon. She is from 부산 [Busan] and had never been there. We walked around, talked history and took a whole bunch of pictures. After the palace, we made our way over to the folk museum where we saw a demonstration of an old traditional style of Korean fighting. By this time, we were really hungry, so we went to my favorite 칼국수 [Kalgugsu] restaurant in 삼청동 [Samcheong-dong]. On top of all that, we walked out to 인사동 [Insadong] and hit some balls in the batting cages. Successful day!

How to get to Gyeongbokgung - 경복궁:
Gyeongbokgung Station [경복궁역] (Seoul Subway Line 3) - Exit 5
When you walk out of the exit, you are right next to the Palace Museum, but if you look to your right, the palace is right there.

How to get to Samcheong-dong - 삼청동:
Anguk Station [안국역] (Seoul Subway Line 3) - Exit 1
Exit 1 actually leaves the station via a building. When you exit out onto the street, turn right. Walk for about 1 minute, and you will reach a right turn; you will notice that you are walking down a street with walls on both sides. The first five minutes on this street are pretty dull; you will be walking in a school zone. In total, you should follow this street for about 10-15 minutes until it Ts off. This is Samcheong-ro. Even though it's a bit of a walk, before you get to Samcheong-ro, you will walk past about a hundred cafes, restaurants and boutiques.

How to get to Insa-dong - 인사동:
Anguk Station [안국역] (Seoul Subway Line 3) - Exit 6
Exit the station and turn right down the immediate street. This is Insa-dong.

Seoul Scavenger Hunt

Seoulatious Photo Scavenger Hunt
06/16/2012 @ 서울 [Seoul]

The rules were simple, we had a team of four people and four hours to find and do as many things on a massive list as possible. Only one camera was allowed per team. Sadly, the turnout wasn't terribly great, but we were able to play as two teams. For our team, we made an unofficial rule that a team member needed to be in every single photo. It was really exhausting, but it was satisfying to be the victors by four points. It was close. Here is our collection with clue captions; there are a ton of photos!

Untitled
( Propose to a stranger: +2 points )

Silliness photos/videos were worth two points. Some of the other objectives were Pole Dance for 2 Minutes, Team Jump Photo, Drinking on Public Transit, & Starting Group Chants on Public Transit.

( Best Sculpture: not the winner )

There was a set of items on the list called "Judges Choice." We had to photograph what we found was the best, and it was voted on for an extra three points at the end.

There was also a group of things that you could take many photos of, for one point each. This list included Any Subway Exit 4s, Haechi Statues, Burger Kings, Family Marts with Chairs outside, Post Offices & Cafe Benes.
